The solution

The inline Trustbadge variant in the mobile shop

OCEANSAPART tested the inline Trustbadge variant from Trusted Shops. This allows the trust element to be flexibly placed in the shop at the point where it has the greatest impact.

In the A/B test, the Trustbadge was prominently integrated into the top navigation bar of the German domain's mobile site. Users can see everything they need without having to leave the shop:

  • the Trustmark
  • the star rating
  • the overall score
  • the number of reviews

The goal was to precisely measure the impact that this new, flexible placement of the trust signals had on the conversion rate (CR), average order value (AOV), and average revenue per user (ARPU).

The result

Measurable uplift on mobile

The A/B test delivered a clear result:

  • +4.14% higher average revenue per user (ARPU)
  • +3.20% higher conversion rate
  • +0.91% higher average order value (AOV)

The ARPU increase of +4.14% is particularly relevant. ARPU combines conversions over time and the average order value and is therefore the key revenue metric in e-commerce.

Mobile accounts for the largest share of traffic for many shops, so even a few percentage points can have a very big impact on overall revenue. An ARPU uplift of this magnitude is considered significantly above average in A/B testing.

The lesson is clear: Visibly placed reviews reduce doubt and measurably increase the willingness to buy.
